Hi All!

Here are the minutes from Thursday the 6th April AberVeg weekly meeting:

1. Next meeting is in 2 weeks (NO MEETING NEXT WEEK) so thats the 20th April at 8PM at Shelley's Bookshop.

2. AberVeg weekly meeting flyers which we will put up in Treehouse, public library, on campus and anywhere else... Just with name of group, 8PM Shelley's bookshop and group email and website...

3. General meetings will be the first Thursday of every month at 8PM in Shelley's bookshop - PLEASE ALL ABERVEG members or prospective members, do attend at least this one meeting every month so that the group can gain feedback on what members want to see done etc - for feedback and so that we can keep track of members... Its a great way to get to know members and hopefully if AberVeg activities reflect general interest of its members, more people will get actively invovled.

4. Aber is Green week represents and opportunity possibly for AberVeg participation with the eco-friendly aspect of veg(etari)anism? Leads on to the Social Forum 28th April - 1st May where AberVeg will have a stall in the Moorland Centre (spelling?) - we will promote our "Food for Free" event here and the accent on the stall will be on eco-living and meat-eating.

5. Mon 22nd May 2006 - Sun 28th May 2006 is Vegetarian week. Saturday 27th May - Vegan Buffet Party -> "Food for Free!" at WI hall (opposite Ship and Castle side-entrance) approx 6-10PM. Members please bring a donation of food - those who can contribute please notify us or more importantly please attend a Thursday meeting. We hope to also have musicians and maybe posters for reading. We will put up flyers around town and campus etc throughout the weeks leading up to the event so that people book it into their diaries and dont forget about it. This event will be followed up immediately the following Thursday by a Monthly General AberVeg meeting in WI hall - all members begged to attend!

6. Posters: as an information source and awareness exercise - it would be great to do a series of information posters on any aspect linking to veg(etari)anism - cover current affairs topics like Seal cull and BSE and Bird flu; cover high profile topics like health and environment, Welsh general veg*an posters, Wales-specific posters (all) and Posters to induce reflection with no words just pictures - these posters could be recycled, could be an on-going project, could be used for information stalls, at social events like the Food for free event etc. It's important to try and veganise the world through ways other than just socials and posters are great if they are well done because they are visually attractive but not aggressive as it is up to the reader to read it - so its up to us to choose topics ppl will be interested in and to make the posters visually attractive and informative without being OTT.

8. Meat-free petition / Proctor&Gamble boycoot petition. During veggie week the Veg society is trying to get people to sign a Meat-free petition - why dont you check out their website and get involved? Also Uncaged are doing a Proctor&Gamble boycott petition we should get people to sign. Nothing much has been decided on these topics but please get in touch if you would be interested in organising this!

9. Survey during vegetarian week: may be interesting during Veg week at end of May, to do a survey to focus people on what it means to eat meat i.e. start with general questions and bring it in with the final quesiton being "Do you eat meat?" as this should be an effective way of focusing the invididual on what it truly means to be a meat-eater...

Next meeting: Thursday 20th April 8PM Shelley's bookshop.
